This holiday weekend, you may want to look for a different place to swim.

SILVER LAKE, Michigan — Ahead of Fourth of July, you may be looking for a place to swim. Officials say this Oceana County park may not be the place to do that.

The District Health Department collected samples at the Lighthouse Beach of Silver Lake State Park. One of three samples showed "unusually high" levels of E. coli.

Officials will continue to collect samples until levels are reduced.

When swimming or doing any water activities, you have a greater risk of contamination.

Children, the elderly and those with weak immune systems are most at risk. You can develop flu-like symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramping, fever and dehydration. You're at risk for respiratory illnesses, like ear, nose and throat infections. You can also get a skin infection if you have an open wound.

13 ON YOUR SIDE will inform the public when the health advisory has been lifted.
