GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m., officers from the Grand Rapids Police Department responded to the scene of a single-car crash at Eastern Ave. SE/Sigsbee St SE.
Officers investigated and found that the vehicle, driven by an adult man, had initially been involved in a minor crash at Eastern Ave. SE and Wealthy St SE. The vehicle struck two other vehicles and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.
While fleeing, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. The crash left him, an adult female passenger and two children trapped inside the vehicle.
The Grand Rapids Fire Department was able to remove all occupants from the vehicle and transport them to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Officials said the children did not have any significant injuries and the woman passenger had an injured leg. The driver had significant injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital for surgery.
The Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
