East Grand Rapids apologizes for sprinkler snafu, revelers laugh it off

It was an honest mistake and people at John Collins Park seemed to realize that.

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - City leaders are apologizing for a snafu during the fireworks display late Wednesday, July 4, but if the Facebook comments are any indication, no one seemed to be that upset.

Apparently, during the display the sprinkler system kicked on and a few people got wet. Before long, the maintenance crew got it turned off.

The city apologized on Facebook for the oversight, but many people responded positively.

Brian said the mistake "Helped keep us cool!"

Omar added "As hot as it was, we could have just put up an 'aid station' sign and called it good."

Katherine said "It was definitely amusing. Nice cool off for the kids though."

Even 13 ON YOUR SIDE Chief Meteorologist George Lessens got in on the jokes. After he was tagged in the post he said "Unexpected shower!"
