GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Grand Rapids Film Society is celebrating its second year with a new summer series focused on sequels.
"To think about us in our second year, and thinking about the continuation, we're bigger and better than ever," said Film Society member Spencer Everhart. "We thought, what if we were to do a series of sequels, to look at the concept of the sequel itself. Which, some people love, some people hate, but to provide a series of movies that kind of dig into that idea of the second round, or the return, or the comeback. Because we're in our second year."
From June 24 to Sept. 9 sequels to classic films will be playing at Wealthy Theatre.
With films such as Jurassic Park 2 and Gremlins 2, the film society hopes to reintroduce even more classics to the big screen.
"Some people may be coming to these who seen the movies before, and they're like, 'Yeah, I want to revisit this favorite of mine.' Or some people are like, 'Yeah, The Lost World Jurassic Park two. I've heard that's really bad.' Is it bad? Maybe not. Maybe you'll come and you'll love it, and you'll discover a movie that actually is kind of unfairly hated in a way," said Everhart.
The Grand Rapids Film Society is also offering a punch card for anyone who watches every film in the series.
If you fill out a punch card, you'll be entered to win free admission to a full year of Film Society screenings at Wealthy Theatre.
The series begins Monday night at 8 p.m. with "Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior", tickets are available on Wealthy Theatre's website.
