GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Eastpointe Commons, an affordable housing complex in Grand Rapids, is welcoming its first residents on Tuesday.
Owned by Hope Network, Eastpointe Commons is a $40 million housing complex that will eventually include on-site amenities like an exercise room, children's room and more.
The first phase of the complex opening Tuesday is called Eastpointe Commons II. This section has 62 units with a mixture of one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) units.
A portion of the apartments were built to support those with vision or hearing impairments, and 13 are fully ADA compliant.
"Affordable and supportive housing options tie directly to our 60-year mission of helping individuals overcome the physical, social and mental barriers standing in their way of achieving their greatest level of independence,” said Bob Von Kaenel, president and CEO of Hope Network.
The complex boasts amenities like on-site parking, in-unit washers and dryers, bike storage, courtyards, walking paths and more.
Eastpointe Commons I is expected to open by the end of the year, with an emphasis on community spaces. There will be a children's room, gym and multi-purpose room.
Along with housing, there will be social services and a case manager on site. Nursing services will be offered at the complex once a month. It is also close to bus stops and within walking distance of many stores, restaurants and schools.
Hope Network officials hope that these perks will take the burden off of families.
“Eastpointe Commons is another step forward in our innovative, holistic approach to setting a new standard for affordable housing by wrapping our housing services with healthcare and life services—all in an effort to help individuals and families achieve successful living,” Von Kaenel said.
The Eastpointe Commons complex was previously Fulton Manor. Construction and renovation began in June 2023. If you're interested in applying for a unit, email eastpointecommons@kmgprestige.com or call 616-890-9184.
