OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — An Allendale driver is accused of driving while intoxicated and causing a crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist last week.

Jehnel Jean Pore, 39, of Allendale, was initially facing operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and moving violation causing injury charges in the June 19 crash with a bicyclist.

The victim, later identified as 59-year-old Douglas Sjoerdsma, of Grandville, died from his injuries.

The prosecutor's office is expected to amend these charges now that the victim has died.

It all happened around 8:41 a.m. Wednesday, June 19. Deputies said that's when they were called to the area of Fillmore Street near 28th Avenue in Georgetown Township.

The investigation shows a 39-year-old woman from Allendale was driving a Chevy eastbound on Fillmore. In the curved portion of Fillmore, the woman crossed the center line and hit a 59-year-old Grandville man riding a bike on the westbound shoulder.

The man, identified as Douglas Sjoerdsma, was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital with critical injuries. Deputies said he was wearing a helmet.

He later died from his injuries.

Pore was also sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

Last week, Pore was arraigned in district court and given a $50,000 bond.

Pore remains in the Ottawa County Jail.
