1 killed, 1 injured after motorcycle collides with car in Walker

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

WALKER, Mich. — A motorcyclist was killed and another driver was injured Monday night in a crash on Alpine Avenue.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Alpine Avenue and 4 Mile Road.

Michigan State Police say the motorcyclist had been in a parking lot when a local police officer spoke to them about the motorcycle being unregistered. The motorcyclist then sped away from the scene, according to investigators, and collided with a car that had been turning onto 4 Mile Road.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

A cashier working nearby heard the crash and told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that she went outside to see what happened.

"I heard this really weird sound. It sounded like, almost like a bottle smashing on the ground, like a bunch of glass...And I had stood up by the register to see if I could see what happened. I saw a car up on the curb. There was a bunch of smoke just pillowing out of it, so I knew there was obviously an accident. And then what I saw also was there was a bunch of debris behind it," said Reighlyn Jagnecki.

Jagnecki said multiple police vehicles converged on the intersection shortly after she went outside to see what caused the noise.

Walker Police closed the intersection of Alpine Avenue NW and 4 Mile Road NW for several hours. It has since reopened.

This incident remains under investigation.
