CROCKERY TWP. — Neighbors said there was a large police presence on 144th Avenue right after the residents heard two loud “booms” early Thursday afternoon on 144th Avenue just south of Leonard Road.This house is just down the road from Jeffers Elementary School.
The were told there was no danger; however, they were not allowed to go through the area.
Many of the men were dressed in clothing that said HSI, the neighbor said. They were carrying guns and surrounded the area.
A Homeland Security officer confirmed that a federal search warrant was being executed on the house and that it involved Homeland Security, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the U.S. Postal Inspector and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
The office said that at no point were any of the neighbors in danger. He declined to give any more information, instead referring this reporter to a public affairs officer.
Public Affairs spokesperson Khaalid Walls said that this was part of an ongoing criminal investigation, but that the search warrant was under seal, so he could not reveal the nature of the investigation.
No arrests were made at this time and the investigation continues.
Walls said that once the warrant is unsealed by a judge, more information would be available.
