PIERSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- A western Montcalm County pole barn went up in flames overnight, and firefighters are trying to determine if it was caused by a bonfire.
It happened just after 12 a.m. Friday on Stanton Road north of Sand Lake.
Three departments were called out to put out the flames but firefighters say no one was inside the barn at the time. Crews say the building is a total loss.
Investigators have not determined an official cause at this point but they say the homeowners had a bonfire going earlier in the night. The owners told crews they thought they had put the fire out.
