WYOMING, Mich. — Wyoming, Kentwood and Grand Rapids fire departments all responded to the scene of a fire at Foundation Building Materials on South Division in Wyoming Wednesday night.
No one was injured in the fire at 5203 South Division.
The Wyoming Fire Department said a passerby spotted the fire and called 911 around 9:15 p.m.
The fire department reported two explosions and flames coming from the building, so they called in help from the Grand Rapids, Kentwood and Cutlerville fire departments.
13 ON YOUR SIDE was on the scene and reported there was a lot of smoke which smelled similar to gunpowder or fireworks.
All told, the 35 firefighters were able to contain and put out the fire so it did not spread to the remainder of the warehouse and front office.
The fire department is still looking into the cause of the flames.
"The Wyoming Fire Department is taking this opportunity to remind the community about the importance of fire safety and preparedness. Please ensure that fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, and fire alarms are regularly inspected and maintained. Keep all fire exits clear of obstructions to allow quick evacuation of a structure if needed," Fire Investigator Brad Dornbos of the Wyoming Fire Department said.
"The Wyoming Fire Department is committed to promoting fire safety and prevention within our community. By taking proactive measures, we can work together to reduce the risk of fire related incidents."
