WALKER, Mich — The saying goes that a cat has nine lives. A firefighter in Kent County may have saved one of those lives of a cat that found itself stuck in a tree over the weekend.
Firefighters at the Walker Fire Department say they were called to a report of a cat stuck in a tree in the Standale neighborhood.
Firefighter Christian Hennells says he went up and saved the cat, which he says was about 20 feet up.
Firefighters say the cat was let out of it's home Saturday night. But Saturday was also the night of the Independence Day fireworks show.
When the owner went to let the cat back inside the next morning, it wasn't there, according to Firefighter Hennels. Instead, it was up in the tree.
"When I got up there, it came right to me, I kind of soothed it, and it came back down," said Firefighter Hennels "Being a pet owner myself, my wife and I have four cats... it was nice to be able to bring it down safely."
The firefighter said this is a good reminder to keep pets indoors during commotion filled events like fireworks.
