Superintendent continues 1st day of school pic tradition with grandson

It’s become tradition for one superintendent to take a first day of school picture with his grandson. This year is no different.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — 13 ON YOUR SIDE brought you this story for the first time last year as students were heading back to school. It’s become tradition for one superintendent to take a first day of school picture with his grandson. This year is no different.

Jim Nielson is a fixture in the Orchard View Schools community and his “Cardinal pride” continues to filter down to the next generation.

This has led to a sweet tradition.  Nielson takes a first day of school picture with his grandson, Quintyn, every school year.

Nielson, himself, went to Orchard View Schools as a student. Then, he started working for the district 38 years ago. He’s now been superintendent for the district for the past nine years.

9-year-old Quintyn, just like his grandpa, is now a student at Orchard View.

You can see over the years how much Quintyn has grown and these photos will undoubtedly be something the family can look back on with a smile.
