Forest Hills Northern High School closed Wednesday after OK2SAY tip

Principal Heather McKinney-Rewa said the school will be closed out of an abundance of caution while the investigation continues.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Forest Hills Northern High School will be closed Wednesday as staff investigate a tip.

In a letter to parents sent out Tuesday night, Principal Heather McKinney-Rewa said the tip was received through OK2SAY around 11:15 p.m. OK2SAY is the anonymous tip line run by the Michigan State Police that allows students to submit information on threats or other concerns.

It was not clear what the tip said.

McKinney-Rewa said it would not be possible for thoroughly investigate the tip before classes began Wednesday, so the high school will be closed out of an abundance of caution.

All other schools in the Forest Hills Public Schools district will hold classes as scheduled.

This comes as school threats have been reported across Michigan. In the past month, multiple West Michigan districts have conducted investigations, including Comstock Public Schools in Kalamazoo, Mona Shores, Grand Haven, Grandville, Jenison, Three Rivers, Byron Center, East Kentwood and Newaygo.

Some of these districts canceled classes for at least one day due to these threats.

In September, a former Mona Shores High School student was taken into custody for allegedly making a threat against the school. That teen is now facing charges.

This is a developing story. Please check back later for updates.
