GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Former Vice President Mike Pence was in Grand Rapids Wednesday night for a special speaking engagement. This comes as announcement rumors of his upcoming presidential campaign surfaced earlier in the day.
The former vice president was joined by former U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos for an event hosted by the Kirk Center at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park.
The two discussed conservative principles for close to an hour, in honor of the 30th anniversary of Russell Kirk's book The Politics of Prudence.
ABC News reports that Pence is expected to announce that he is running for president in Des Moines, Iowa on June 7.
Pence did not address the leaked reports during the event.
He did speak to his policies and some of his work during the Trump Administration, including the need for border security, free and fair trade and state's rights.
"It is a belief in, a strong national defense, a belief in limited government as defined by the constitution, an unapologetic belief in the sanctity of life and the traditional family," he said. "Now, we added to that in our administration, we changed our consensus on China."
When he announces his candidacy next week, he'll join seven others on the republican ticket, including Former President Donald Trump.
