Friends set up fundraiser for motorcyclist seriously injured in crash

Tessa Raica was hit while leaving work for her lunch break.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Friends of a motorcyclist who was hit after leaving her job for her lunch break have set up a fundraiser to help with her medical costs.

Earlier this month, an 84-year-old man driving a Chevy Malibu pulled out of a private driveway on Plainfield Ave. when he hit 25-year-old Tessa Raica, according to the Kent County Sheriff's Office.

She was immediately taken to the hospital for serious injuries.

Her friends, Molly Dewy and Jordan Hill said she is now out of the ICU but still has both her arms in casts, a shattered pelvis and other injuries.

Even though she still has months of therapy and rehab ahead of her, they are just grateful this accident wasn't worse.

“With this fundraiser, you know, just to try to garner some support for her so that she's able to kind of ease through the burden of all the expenses that you can imagine, and then assist her family with whatever they need,” said Hill.

“Getting that phone call from her parents was definitely scary. But again, we're just really thankful that you know she is going to be okay after you know the recovery she has to go through,” said Dewy.

If you want to help her in her recovery, there is a gofundme that is set up right now.
