MUSKEGON, Michigan — The Getty Drive-In opens this Friday for its 81st season.
The Muskegon drive-in theater is just one of a handful of drive-in movie theaters that still operates in Michigan.
There will be three double features and a single movie showing on opening night, Friday, March 29.
The lineup for the first two weeks of the 2024 season is:
- Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Demon Slayer: Hashira
- Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Wonka
- Kung Fu Panda 4 and Trolls Band Together
- Twister
On Friday, the gates open at 7:30 p.m. and the showings begin at 8:30 p.m. The first 50 cars on opening night will get a free Getty sticker and a "your choice, our treat" coupon for the newly updated concession stand.
“We spruced up the stand during our off-season,” says Chad Gemzer, General Manager. “It has retained an old school charm, but fresh paint and new equipment are welcome updates.”
The Getty Drive-In features a digital projection system with sound broadcast through an FM radio signal.
"This is a summer tradition for lots of folks in West Michigan,” says Emily Loeks, Director of Community Affairs for Studio C. “Kids run around in flip flops and barefoot, set up camp chairs, string hammocks between cars and make expeditions to the playground and concession stand. It's a memorable way to experience a movie."
Throughout the season, the Getty will have "classic" movie offerings for $5, the first of which is the 1996 classic, Twister.
