Crews began removal of the catwalk off the Grand Haven south pier Monday morning.
As of 10:30 a.m., the last section of the catwalk nearest the lighthouse had been removed.
There will be about 7-9 days worth of work to remove the catwalk once contractors get started, according to Grand Haven City Manager Pat McGinnis.
“They’re going to start on the very west end,” McGinnis said. “They’ll put a fence up blocking the last 200 feet.”
According to McGinnis, the contractors will move from the end of the pier toward land, gradually closing the pier along the way. The pier will remain open during the removal project, with closures around where work is taking place.
