Man arrested after barricading himself in Grand Rapids home, police say

It began when the property owner called police, saying there was someone squatting in the vacant home, officials say.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police responded to a person barricaded inside a home in Grand Rapids Monday. It ended after multiple hours.

The incident happened at a home in the 300 block of Pine Avenue NW. Authorities with the Grand Rapids Police Department said no one else was in the home.

It started when the property owner told police there was a person squatting in the vacant home, officials say.

Police arrived and found a person on the second floor who had barricaded himself inside. 

Crisis negotiators arrived and communicated with the man for hours.

Just before 3 p.m., a man was being led out of the home in handcuffs by several armed officers. He was arrested without incident, and the standoff is now over, police say.
