GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Mayor-Elect David LaGrand was be sworn in as the mayor of the city Tuesday evening.
The Oath of Office ceremony took place at City Hall at 7 p.m. The public was invited to attend the ceremony.
Commissioners-Elect AliciaMarie Belchak, Milinda Ysasi and Marshall Kilgore, as well as Library Commissioners Kevin Peterson, Rachel S. Anderson and Justine Bryant were also sworn in.
LaGrand defeated challenger Senita Lenear in a landslide in November.
He served as a state representative between 2015 and 2023 after winning a special election for the 75th District seat.
LaGrand also previously served on the Grand Rapids City Commission and Grand Rapids Public School Board.
He was born in Grand Rapids and is a Calvin College graduate. As an attorney, LaGrand was also an assistant Kent County Prosecutor.
LaGrand currently owns and manages Long Road Distillers and other West Michigan businesses.
With LaGrand taking over the job of mayor, long-time Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss bid farewell to the office she served for eight years.
