GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — The Grand Rapids City Commission is looking for someone to represent the Third Ward following Nathaniel Moody's retirement in December.

Moody, who has served Grand Rapids for six years, announced Dec. 13 his plans to retire by the end of the month.

Moody was selected to serve the Third Ward in July 2018, when he was unanimously chosen to serve the rest of former commissioner David Allen's term. He then was reelected in November 2019.

The City Commission is accepting applications now through 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1 to fill his spot. Applications are available here. Interested individuals need to have a completed application form, a resume, one professional reference, two personal references and the completed essay questions.

You must be a resident of the city for six months or more. The salary is established by the Local Officers Compensation Commission, which is currently set at $32,550.

A committee will interview applicants Tuesday, Feb. 20 and recommend three final candidates to the City Commission.

The three final candidates will then be interviewed in a public session on Tuesday, March 5. A final decision is expected March 19.

Mayor Rosalynn Bliss thanked Moody for his service to the community.

“Commissioner Moody left us with large shoes to fill, but I am hopeful we will attract strong candidates to serve the remaining ten months of his term," said Bliss.

Questions can be directed to the City Clerk at 616-456-3010 or cityclerk@grcity.us.
