Kent County Animal Control looking to identify owner of dog who attacked 9-year-old boy

The Sheriff's Office said the boy was playing in the park with a group when the dog attacked him multiple times earlier this month.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Kent County Animal Control investigators need your help tracking down the owner of a dog suspected in a vicious attack that sent a 9-year-old to the hospital.

The Sheriff's Office said a group of kids were playing at a park in the 900 block of Evergreen Street SE in Grand Rapids when an unattended dog approached them.

Authorities said the dog attacked the boy multiple times as he tried to escape.

Investigators said the 9-year-old did not provoke the dog.

The boy suffered severe injuries and had to go to the hospital to get treatment.

Surveillance video shows the dog's presumed owner returning to the park, putting the dog on a leash and then leaving the area.

Animal Control wants to identify that person.

The dog's owner is believed to be a man with long dreadlocks who was wearing all-black clothing at the time.
