GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — You'll have to pay to park on the street for an hour longer in Grand Rapids starting Aug. 1, 2024.
That's because the City of Grand Rapids' Mobile GR Department extended its enforcement hours for paid on-street parking meters.
Monday through Friday, paid on-street enforcement hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Starting on Thursday, Aug. 1, those hours will be extended one hour later from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, unless otherwise noted by signage.
The City Commission approved the new hours as part of its FY25 budget.
“This change aims to enhance the availability and turnover of parking spaces, supporting local businesses and ensuring that residents and visitors have better access to parking during peak evening hours,” said Jennifer Kasper, assistant director for Mobile GR.
The city said this extension is part of its efforts to improve parking availability and accessibility for residents and visitors. By extending the enforcement hours until 7 p.m., the City hopes to address the growing demand for parking during the evening hours, particularly in areas with high foot traffic.
Mobile GR said it made the change after getting feedback from businesses, residents and visitors.
In addition to this extension, the city also implemented parking rate increases as part of the FY25 budget.
You can learn more about parking regulations and rates at the City of Grand Rapids’ Mobile GR Department website or by contacting 311 Customer Service at 616-456-3000 or 311.
