Woman killed, man injured after car hits tree in SE Grand Rapids

Police say they have been unable to identify the woman who was killed and are looking for anyone who may be able to.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One person is dead and another is injured after a car crashed into a tree overnight in Grand Rapids.

The Grand Rapids Police Department (GRPD) said the crash happened around 12:40 a.m. along Breton Road SE. An SUV left the road and hit a tree, trapping the occupants inside, according to police. They had to be extricated by the Grand Rapids Fire Department.

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say they have been unable to identify her at this time and are looking for anyone who may be able to.

A man was taken to a hospital with "potentially life-threatening" injuries, according to police. 

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.
