GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A man was arrested early Monday morning after allegedly running a red light and crashing into a light pole in Grand Rapids.

The crash happened just after 3 a.m. at the intersection of Pearl Street and Monroe Avenue near Rosa Parks Circle.

Police say the man struck the light pole after not stopping for a red light, rolling the car. He then told police his girlfriend was driving, but surveillance video showed that the man was driving, according to police.

He was taken into custody. He was not injured in the crash.

Police are still investigating. Investigators believe drugs and alcohol may be a factor.

The intersection is open. Crews will be working to fix the light pole, though it's unclear how long it's expected to take.
