OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — A Grand Rapids man drowned in Lake Michigan on Sunday afternoon, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said around 3:40 p.m. they responded to a report of a drowning in Lake Michigan, south of Pigeon Lake Pier.
OCSO said a 38-year-old man from Grand Rapids was swimming about 100 yards out in Lake Michigan when he went underwater.
According to deputies, the man was eventually pulled out of the water by bystanders who began CPR.
OCSO, Port Sheldon Township Fire, and AMR arrived on the scene and took over lifesaving measures, but deputies said resuscitation was unsuccessful.
