UPDATE (11:45 a.m.)-- Power was restored to the majority of customers by 11:45 a.m. A Consumers Energy spokesperson blames the outage on a piece of equipment that failed at the substation.
GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)—Consumers Energy says a problem with one of its substations knocked out power to 4,700 homes and businesses in northeast Grand Rapids.
The outage began just before 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. A Consumers Energy spokesperson says the problem originated from the company's substation at Leonard Street and Monroe Avenue.
A utility crew is working on the issue. Some customers on Facebook say their power returned around 11:15 a.m.; Consumers Energy expects to have power fully restored by 2 p.m.
