GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Attention all gamers!

The Grand Rapids Public Library will now offer video games for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox that can be checked out with a GRPL card.

Ann Neff Rohs, the collection services director at GRPL, said libraries are investing in game collections because it supports their mission of providing the community with opportunities to connect with others, practice critical thinking and use literacy skills.

According to consumer market data, Neff Rohs said the average household spends about $1,000 per year on video games.

"Libraries have always supported our community by helping their budgets extend farther when they borrow materials instead of buying them," Neff Rohs said. "We’re excited to bring video games to gamers of all ages and really show the value a library card can deliver.”

GRPL encourages the public to visit any of its locations or visit the library's online catalog to browse its collection of video games.
