GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Visitors at the Grand Rapids Public Museum can now enjoy an expanded, interactive version of its Historic Grand Rapids LEGO display, featuring more bricks, buildings, figures and scenes.
The LEGO display, which first debuted in 2013, has grown significantly over the years.
What started as a small, two-table exhibit has now expanded to eight tables, each measuring six feet square.
This year's version of the display includes a larger river and increased levels of detail, offering an even more immersive experience.
“We’ve doubled the size of the river, and we’ve added new buildings and scenes to the layout. Every year, we aim to improve the detail and bring something new to the display,” said Lenny Pieniazek, project manager of the Western Michigan LEGO User Group.
The Western Michigan LEGO User Group, the team behind the creation, has fostered a long-lasting relationship with the museum and looks forward to this collaboration each year.
The group's goal is to continually enhance the display, with a focus on adding new buildings and improving the overall fidelity of the model.
The LEGO exhibit is just one part of the museum's holiday offerings.
Kellie Rosekrans, the museum’s marketing director, said the holiday season at GRPM is packed with exciting activities for all ages.
“We have an Elfin Santa scavenger hunt throughout the museum, perfect for guests of all ages. You can pick up a printout at the front desk or find it online. And, we’re offering Snowflake Break Camps for younger visitors,” Rosekrans said.
For those looking to meet Santa, the museum has planned a special event on Dec. 7 where guests can take photos, enjoy hot cocoa and even watch the Let It Snow planetarium show.
The LEGO display at the Grand Rapids Public Museum will be open to the public through Jan. 31.
