GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — As Grand Rapids prepares for change amid major construction projects, the new professional soccer stadium set to break ground next year officially has a name.
On Monday, Grand Action 2.0—the economic development organization behind the new stadium—announced that Amway has secured the naming rights for the stadium. It will be known as Amway Stadium.
The naming rights were secured by a $33 million gift from Amway.
“For 65 years, Amway has been dedicated to investing in the people and success of our local community," said Amway CEO Michael Nelson. "Transformative projects like the Amway Stadium are a testament to the pride we have in our hometown, and our commitment to shaping the growth of West Michigan and beyond for generations to come."
Set to be located at 230 Winter Avenue NW, the outdoor stadium will have 8,500 seats and act as a multi-purpose venue. It will be just blocks from the Grand River and downtown Grand Rapids.
City officials say the stadium will bring 17 national and international competitions to Beer City, along with offering over 50 community events.
Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss said the stadium will drive economic growth in the city.
“This stadium is about building a stronger, more vibrant community,” said Bliss. “We’re talking about jobs, more active neighborhoods and new customers for our local shops, bars and restaurants. It will be a source of pride for the West Side and all of Grand Rapids. It will bring us together as fans, open opportunities for youth leagues, bring more excitement to our community, attract visitors and put us on the map as a serious sports city.”
Officials say Amway Stadium will generate an estimated $408 million in net new economic impact for Grand Rapids over the next 30 years.
Construction is expected to take about two years, with groundbreaking possible as early as spring 2025. Officials hope to hold the first match in the spring of 2027.
