GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A local not-for-profit economic development organization is continuing to work on a project that could bring a soccer stadium to Grand Rapids.
Grand Action 2.0 shared renderings of the proposed soccer stadium Wednesday after a local business journal shared the images on their social media with little context, the organization says.
Grand Acton 2.0 say that the renderings, shared by Crain's Grand Rapids are "very early schematic designs from Progressive AE used for planning purposes" and that updated renderings will be released if Grand Action 2.0 has a "definitive announcement to make about the project."
While Grand Action 2.0 says the renderings are very early designs, they did reiterate that they were working on bringing a professional soccer team to West Michigan.
"That will require a stadium. Our ability to build a stadium depends on several factors – most importantly, identifying and conducting due diligence, acquiring property, community and stakeholder engagement and securing funding," said Grand Action 2.0 Executive Director Kara Wood.
Wood went on to say that the organization is making progress toward their goals, but are unable to confirm any information regarding the stadium's possible site and design.
"We will continue to partner with key stakeholders to complete the due diligence required to make this vision a reality and will keep the community informed as plans become more concrete.," Wood added.
There was no timeline provided by Grand Action 2.0 to indicate when the project could be approved or begin construction.
