Missing Grand Rapids police body camera found

A body camera gone missing during an arrest has prompted a police request to get it back.

UPDATE: Police say the missing body camera has been found.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A body camera gone missing during an arrest has prompted a police request to get it back.

Police were dispatched around 10 p.m. Saturday, July 30, to a location at Eastern Avenue and Prince Street SE on a report of loud music playing at a party, according to a Grand Rapids Police Department news release.

Officers trying to find the person responsible for the party found themselves in a hectic situation, which led to the arrest of four people, the release states.

During one arrest, police say a person became resistant, knocking the officer's body camera off its mount and to the ground. That camera was picked up by another person who refused to turn it over to police and instead threw it into a yard next door.

Police say they believe the camera then was picked up by someone in the crowd of people and has been missing since.

Body cameras have been in use by Grand Rapids police since December 2015 at the cost of $1.8 million.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Grand Rapids Police Department at 616-456-3604 or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
