Grand Rapids woman arrested in connection to attempt to smuggle contraband into prison

MARSHALL, Michigan — A Grand Rapids woman has been arrested in connection to an incident where people were allegedly trying to smuggle contraband into a correctional facility, according to the Michigan State Police.

In May 2023, MSP said there was an incident where people were trying to smuggle contraband into the Lakeland correctional facility in Coldwater. 

The contraband was intercepted before it reached the prisoners. 

A joint investigation was started between the Michigan Department of Corrections and MSP into this incident and others spanning into early 2024. 

Several suspects were identified, MSP said. 

On Friday in Kent County, troopers arrested a 24-year-old Grand Rapids woman on felony charges in connection to the investigation. 

She has not been arraigned yet, MSP said.
