One killed, one injured in Georgetown Township crash

One woman is dead after a two-vehicle accident in Georgetown Township.

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- One woman is dead after a two-vehicle accident in Georgetown Township.

Both directions of 36th Avenue were closed near Port Sheldon in Ottawa County while emergency crews were on scene. 

The crash was reported around 8 a.m. Friday. 

Two people were in the southbound Toyota when the driver, 50-year-old Rebecca Kunst, lost control and swerved into the path of an oncoming Jeep. Two people were also in the Jeep. They were shaken up, but uninjured. 

After the initial impact, the Toyota bounced back and hit the guardrail.

Kunst was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt. Her passenger, Jason Lou, 19, was critically injured and taken to Spectrum Hospital. Lou is an exchange student visiting from China.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.
