GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Election officials in Ottawa County received numerous complaints Tuesday about a controversial sign visible from a polling place.
The political message was posted outside Georgetown Bible Church and read "Vote Biblically". The church is also a polling place.
Election officials determined the sign was far enough from the church that it didn't violate election laws. However, some people contacted the county clerk to ask the sign be taken down.
Georgetown Bible Church pastor, Dick McIntyre defended the sign. "Number one we're not doing anything illegal. Number two, this has been up there for a while, so it's not like this is a big surprise. Number three, we're not supporting a party, a person, or a ballot issue, all we're asking people to do is vote."
Georgetown Township officials had asked the church to consider changing the sign out of consideration for those who complained.
