GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Students, business leaders and community members can learn more about artificial intelligence (AI) through Grand Rapids Community College's AI Incubator, which opens later this month.
The incubator will give people a chance to experiment with AI and learn more about how it can be used, as well as how to adapt in a business environment.
“We are deploying this new resource to provide practical, hands-on skills for people seeking to learn about AI,” said Faculty Director Jonnathan Resendiz. “These might be current students, or they might be local business professionals who are charged with leveraging AI for their companies.”
Beginning this fall, the AI Incubator will be part of the AI Certificate program, a new seven-week course.
The incubator will also be open for community members to use. In the future, officials are hoping to host workshops and training, and offer time slots where the public can use their computers for free.
GRCC officials want the incubator to help businesses learn how to adapt to the surge in AI and how AI can be used to benefit their organizations.
“GRCC has a longstanding relationship with the business community,” said Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Dr. Kristi Haik. “This rapidly emerging technology can transform the way businesses process data and information. We want to help our local business partners understand the technology. We also want them to understand how GRCC can upskill their employees to use and deploy AI via our certificate program.”
The open house for businesses is Tuesday, June 18 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the GRCC Calkins Science Center. The AI Incubator will be demonstrated and there will be a presentation on how you can prepare your business for AI.
