GRAND RAPIDS, Mich — A child has died following a water rescue on Saturday evening, according to the Grand Rapids Police Department.
The Grand Rapids Fire Department and GRPD responded to a call for help at Riverside Park around 5 p.m.
GRPD said crews immediately entered the water to search for a 9-year-old who had gone missing and was suspected to be in the river.
After several minutes, crews found the child in the water and brought them to shore. GRPD said medical care and CPR were given to the child before care was transferred to LIFE EMS.
GRPD said the child was taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead.
