Hart High School mourns unexpected loss of Principal Troy Moran

The school posted that there will be a porchlight vigil held on Sunday at 8 p.m. for Moran.

HART, Michigan — The principal of Hart High School, Troy Moran, died unexpectedly on Saturday, the school announced in a Facebook post around 8:30 p.m.

According to the Oceana County Press, Hart Public Schools Superintendent Mark Platt said Moran had gone out on a run and had a heart attack. He was only 46 years old.

The school's Facebook post, made by Platt, said Moran was a West Michigan native who spent time in multiple districts.

The Oceana County Press said Moran served as the Hart High School principal since 2021. He was previously the principal at Montague High School for four years.

Platt said there's been an outpouring of support from school districts across the West Michigan Conference and the WSESD.

"If you knew Troy, you know he had an infectious laugh and smile. He was one of those people who you just loved seeing and talking with," Platt said in the post.

Hart High School also posted that there will be a porchlight vigil held on Sunday at 8 p.m. for Moran.

The school asked the community to show solidarity by lighting their porch lights in a "symbolic gesture that Principal Moran's guiding light will live on in our hearts."

Hart High School will still have school on Monday and counseling will be available for staff and students.

Platt said the crisis team is also meeting to discuss details and action steps.

The Oceana County Press said Moran leaves behind two daughters, Elle and Reagan.
