HOLLAND, Mich — A mother is recovering and reportedly doing well after she had a baby at a Holland-area truck stop early Thursday morning.
The healthy baby was delivered in a SUV at the Tulip City Truck Stop in Holland around 3:30 a.m., Ottawa County Central Dispatch confirms.
Robert Buursma with the Holland Department of Public Safety said the parents, who are from Hamilton, were on the way to Holland Hospital after the mother had gone into labor.
"The baby had other plans, deciding not to wait to get to the hospital to enter the world," Buursma said.
Central dispatch received a call that a baby was being born at the truck stop and within a few minutes, the baby was delivered with the verbal assistance of the dispatcher on the phone. The baby could be heard crying in the background of the 911 call.
Two employees from the Tulip City Truck Stop also assisted by bringing towels and other supplies and helping any other way they could.
The mother and baby were taken to a nearby hospital after first responders arrived at the truck stop. Both the mother and the baby are doing well, police say.
