The official start of winter is just over one month away, as the colder weather approaches, Consumers Energy and DTE Energy are enrolling customers in utility assistance programs. The two utility companies hosted an event in Muskegon Heights on Tuesday.
The programs allow some customers to make affordable monthly payments based on their income. Roger Morgenstern, a Consumers Energy spokesperson says, "Getting the assistance available now, because people may be already having some problems, we do not want them to get into winter and have a situation where they could be cut off because of non-payment, we do not want anybody to go cold this winter."
For those who missed the event each company has an 800 number customers can call for assistance both Consumers Energy can be reached at 800-477-5050 while DTE Energy can call 877-687-5499.
