MANISTEE COUNTY, Mich. — As summer rolls on, many are looking for places to go for a swim and cool off. Officials said this Manistee County lake may not be the place to visit right now.

On Saturday, the District Health Department was notified by Ferris State University that two bacterial samples they collected from Crystal Lake showed "unusually high" E. coli levels.

Officials will continue to collect samples until levels are reduced.

When swimming or doing any water activities, you have a greater risk of contamination.

Children, the elderly and those with weak immune systems are most at risk. You can develop flu-like symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramping, fever and dehydration. You're at risk for respiratory illnesses, like ear, nose and throat infections. You can also get a skin infection if you have an open wound.

13 ON YOUR SIDE will inform the public when the health advisory has been lifted.
