LANSING, Mich. — Pete Hoekstra, a former congressman from West Michigan, is calling Michigan Republicans to unite behind Donald Trump.
Hoekstra served as a Michigan co-chair and national security advisor for Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and was Trump's ambassador to the Netherlands.
After a meeting held on Jan. 6 to remove the prior chair of the Michigan GOP, Hoekstra was elected on Jan. 20 to serve as chair for the rest of the term.
Hoekstra's statement comes following Trump's New Hampshire victory in the GOP primary election.
The statement reads:
“With President Trump’s decisive win in New Hampshire, he is now the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party and we can start to focus our efforts on BEATING Joe Biden, rather than in-party fighting.
Every Republican in the State of Michigan must now be laser-focused on making sure we deliver our state for President Trump in November.
If we unify and deliver Michigan for Donald Trump - he will be the 47th President of the United States. That is the mission.
As Chairman of the Michigan GOP, I am putting together an operation that will do just that.”
