Suspect in custody after man is shot in the head, bomb threat made in Holland

ATF was called to the scene to determine whether or not there was a bomb in the house and they confirmed there was not.

HOLLAND, Mich. — A Holland man was shot in the head in Holland on Saturday afternoon, according to Captain Robert Buursma of the Holland Department of Public Safety

The shooting took place in the 300 block of West 19th Street, Buursma said.

According to police, the suspect, a 27-year-old man from Holland, walked up to the victim and shot him with a handgun.

The 41-year-old victim was taken to a Holland hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Grand Rapids. He was last known to be in critical condition, police said.

Police said the suspect is in custody.

The suspect told police there was a possible bomb in the house, and while Buursma said this was unlikely, they took all precautions.

A 500-foot buffer zone was put in place around the house, evacuating all residents immediately next to it and in the zone.

ATF was been called to the scene to determine whether or not there was a bomb in the house and it was confirmed there was not.

Most residents are now allowed to return to their homes.

Police aren't sure yet if the suspect knows the victim or has a connection to the house where the shooting occurred and the bomb threat was made.
