HOLLAND, Mich. — A fire in Holland Tuesday heavily damaged a home, injured a resident and killed a pet.
The Holland Fire Department responded to 516 West 20th Street at around 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy fire involving the front of the single-family home. One occupant was outside of the house and appeared to be injured.
Additional units arrived on scene and crews initiated efforts to extinguish the fire and search for additional occupants. It was soon learned that all occupants were accounted for, but two pet dogs were inside. They were located and removed by fire crew. One of them was conscious and alert, but the other was unresponsive. Firefighters immediately initiated resuscitation efforts utilizing a pet response kit and CPR, but unfortunately the dog succumbed to the injuries.
The injured occupant located upon arrival was taken to an area hospital. The patient’s condition is currently unknown, but they were conscious, alert and oriented while on scene, according to the Holland Fire Department.
Damage estimates are not available at this time, but the department said the house sustained significant damage throughout. The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation is ongoing.
