HOLLAND, Mich. — Inpatient behavioral health services at Holland Hospital will be expanded soon thanks to a $3 million grant from the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA).
This funding aims to address mental health concerns in West Michigan, especially in Ottawa County. It was approved by the Michigan Legislature as part of the 2023 fiscal year budget.
The expansion will begin on Sunday, Sept. 29 and add two licensed psychiatric beds. Officials say this will help hospital staff treat an additional 100 patients per year.
This comes as Ottawa County's 2023 Community Health Needs Assessment, which helps officials identify and address concerns, found that mental health was the top issue for community members.
“As mental health continues to be a priority area of need for our community, we are pleased to offer expanded access to inpatient psychiatric treatment as a result of the addition of these two licensed psychiatric beds,” said Mikaela Andrea, director of Behavioral Health Services at Holland Hospital.
Holland Hospital officials say it is the only facility offering inpatient psychiatric care in the county. It is also the primary inpatient care facility serving Allegan County.
Currently, Holland Hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health care, including options like therapy, psychological testing and psychiatry.
