According to Zeeland Public Schools, a former student in the area made threats on social media toward current Zeeland High School students.

ZEELAND, Mich. - Multiple buildings in Zeeland Public Schools were placed on lockdown today after a former student made threats toward current students on social media.

Around 11:45 a.m., Zeeland East High School, Zeeland West High School and Quincy Elementary were put into shelter in place and then placed on lockdown by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.

Creekside Middle School, Roosevelt Elementary, ZQuest, Lincoln Elementary, Early Childhood Center and the ZPS administration building were all put into shelter in place by the district, under the direction of OCSD.

The suspect, a 16-year-old, was taken into custody around noon on Tuesday. The suspect was cooperative and did not possess or have any access to any weapons.

Police said the threats were concerning but non-specific, and the students who noted the messages reported to school authorities who notified law enforcement immediately.

The lockdown and shelter in place were lifted at 12:07 p.m.
