HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- One teenager is dead and another is charged with murder after a gang-related fight.
Around 11 o'clock Thursday night, two groups of teens were walking along the bike path on Riley Street near 136th Avenue. JaParis Rodgers, 18, was with one group, and 16-year-old Victor Donaldson was with another.
Investigators say the two teens had a prior disagreement, and on Thursday night, Donaldson had a weapon. Donaldson allegedly stabbed Rodgers several times; Rodgers was pronounced dead by the time he got to the hospital.
Donaldson was arrested four hours later at his home on Boer Street.
"I was very upset when I heard he had died," said Linda Ross, who lives across from where the stabbing took place. She is concerned about gang violence.
"I went across the street to the officer and asked him if he should be concerned. He said, no. He said there would be extra patrols, they were worried about retaliation."
Investigators confirmed both teens were involved with gangs.
"As to what their level of activity was in gangs, we're still looking into that," said an Ottawa County Sheriff's deputy.
Donaldson was arraigned Friday afternoon on an open murder charge. Although he is a juvenile, he is being charged as an adult. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
