Traffic crash on U.S. 31 brings down traffic lights and lines

The crash shut down traffic on both sides of U.S. 31 on Saturday afternoon.

HOLLAND TWP, Mich. - Two cars were involved in a crash on Saturday afternoon in Ottawa County on U.S.-31 near James Street.

According to a news release, Wendi Landford, 44, was making a Michigan left on U.S.-31 to head south on the road around 3 p.m. Witnesses say that she had a green light and made the turn.

Margaret Arens, 16, was driving south on U.S.-31, and she disregarded the red light at the Michigan left where Landford was turning.

The 44-year-old woman took action to avoid Arens and drove off the road, hitting a pole holding traffic lights for both north and southbound lanes of U.S.-31. The crash blocked traffic on both sides of the road.

Lanes were re-opened just after 5 p.m.

Neither Landford nor Arens were injured in the crash, but two minors that were in Landford's car were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
