HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) Visteon Corporation announced Tuesday it plans to close the company's Technical and Engineering Center in Holland. The facility currently has 240 salaried employees.
Jim Fisher with the company's media relations department says 145 of the positions will be moved to the company's operation in Van Buren Township near Ann Arbor. Current employees at the Holland facility will be given the opportunity to apply for jobs at the new location. 30 other positions will be spread across global operations and the remainder of the positions will be eliminated.
Fisher says employees who choose not to relocate or are not rehired by the company will be given a severance package and help preparing to find a new job.
Visteon purchased the Holland operation from Johnson Controls last year. Fisher says a number of factors are behind the decision to close the facility, but its mostly due to the fact that a majority of Visteon's clients are located in Metro Detroit.
No job cuts are expected before September. The facility is expected to close for good by the end of the year.
