ZEELAND, Mich. (WZZM) -- If you are into classic cars, downtown Zeeland is the place to be this weekend. Organizers are gearing up for 22nd annual Show and Shine Car Show.
"It is not an event with a lot of flash. It is about seeing people who come down each year and talk about the memories and to see how the downtown has grown," said Casey Dunwoodie, director of events for Zeeland Festivals. "It is about looking at these incredible cars and see the passion of people who work on it."
More than 200 cars, mostly classic, will line Main Street.
"People line all down main street to watch the cars come by during the cruise," said Dunwoodie. "Then they come down to see the cars up close and personal during the car show."
The cars may be the stars during the show and cruise but the people can participate in several other activities during the events.
"We also have swing dancing during the event. That is new this year. We have instructors and dancers to help you learn. We have door prizes with gift certificates to local businesses and gift baskets plus about 30 awards/prizes for the vehicles," said Dunwoodie. "Friday, we have the Zeeland rotary chicken barbecue at Vanderluyster Square that starts at 4 p.m. That is a big part of the tradition. We will have a DJ who will play swing music with the dancers and instructors."
The car cruise begins at 6 p.m. Friday. This year's participants will take a tour around town for about 30 minutes and finish on Main street at Vanderluyster Square.
Saturday marks the second, and final, day of event with the car show.
"That is the longest part of this tradition. This has been going on for 22 years. Each year we get people who have been coming for the entire time and new people. You see a lot of parents showing their kids their craft. It is a great family event," said Dunwoodie. "It is a great family event."
