KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Homes Giving Hope is a fairly new non-profit that helps people with mild developmental and intellectual disabilities find homes.
They held their third annual fundraising gala this evening. The event featured live music as well as a silent and live auction to raise money for the program.
13 ON YOUR SIDE anchor Juliet Dragos emceed Thursday night's festivities.
In just three years they have opened three homes giving a dozen adults with physical and intellectual disabilities the independence of living on their own.
"I love it. I honestly love it," said resident Sarah Keeney. "I have not been happier. I love it so much. And just being around people my own, close to my own age and being away from family and living independently. I absolutely love it."
Program organizers says the need is endless. Homes Giving Hope currently has a waiting list for the opportunity to experience independent living.
